Additionally, Rivers has been a very vocal advocate of Laker trash talk over the years and if the team hired him, it would be a slap in the face to the Lakers faithful. He and the Lakers have repeated history of NBA Finals matchups and Laker fans still remember how Rivers helped guide the Celtics past Los Angeles in 2008. Not to mention that Rivers last two jobs before Philadelphia have been with two of the Lakers biggest rivals, the Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Clippers. He has also used questionable rotations throughout his coaching career come playoff time and has had trouble in the past adjusting mid-series to different schemes the opposing team throws out. He has worked with some of the more talented teams during that time and has still managed to have an under. Over the course of his career, Rivers has a record of 100-94 in the postseason and since moving on from the successful Celtic teams he coached, he has a 36-37 record. That isn’t a narrative that any coach wants to have, and it has followed Rivers around for his entire career. However, his tenure as a coach in the NBA has seen his teams consistently fail in the playoffs including him being the coach of multiple different teams that have blown 3-1 series leads. Rivers has had an accomplishment career as both a player and a coach, even winning a championship with the Boston Celtics back in 2008. Rivers says that he isn’t a candidate for the Lakers job but he is still under contract and in the playoffs with Philadelphia so that headline means little to nothing at this time. However, under no circumstances should the Lakers even entertain hiring Doc Rivers to lead their team if he does indeed become a free agent. Should Rivers and the 76ers get bounced the playoffs early this season, Rivers could be let go. One name that has been linked to the Lakers is Doc Rivers, who is currently the Philadelphia 76ers coach. The Lakers will now be on the lookout for their new head coach, and they have outlined that they want someone with a strong voice in the locker room who can get the most out of the players. While the blame for the season doesn’t fall completely at the feet of Vogel, he does deserve a portion of the blame. Vogel was fired just two years after helping lead the franchise to their 17 th NBA title. After the atrocious season that the Los Angeles Lakers just went through, it had been known for awhile now that head coach Frank Vogel would be let go.
